Welcome to the eighth issue of Teaching the Legacy. The theme of this issue is “One Individual Can Make a Difference”, as we prepare for International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27th). Included are updates on activities at the International School and within Yad Vashem in the “What’s New” sections, as well as new publications and new additions to our website. Chiune (Sempo) Sugihara – Righteous Among the Nations
This lesson plan focuses on Righteous Among the Nations Chiune Sugihara. Through his story, students are encouraged to discuss issues of personal responsibility, conscience and moral dilemmas. We also attempt to sensitize students to matters of emotional intelligence. Read more
Witnesses and Testimony
In the Holocaust’s aftermath, many survivors felt compelled to relate and give eyewitness accounts of those dark days, to pass on testament to future generations. In this ceremony we relate the experiences of two Holocaust survivors and their families – one from Germany and one from Italy – as told in their own words. Read more

Educational Materials for International Holocaust Remembrance Day
January 27th has been designated by the United Nations as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this special site, we provide short video testimony from four Israeli survivors, along with useful links to educational materials. Also included is a new ceremony in English, German, and Italian, as well as guidelines for preparing ceremonies. Read more
